The name of the character came first, and Danny seemed to simply fall out of the air, much the same way the story did. I was killing time in a studio at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts with a mahjong game I won playing Monopoly at McDonalds. (Don’t let anyone tell you that contest is rigged.) Sometimes when you feel blocked, the best thing to do is something mindless. Sometimes when you do something mindless nothing happens; sometimes a whole novel lands in your brain. That’s where A Star in the Face of the Sky came from.
Off to the post office today to mail copies of the book to various folks who have helped in various parts of the journey. Somewhere in a warehouse in Minneapolis boxes of A Star in the Face of the Sky await their turn in a cue. Any day now some nice folks with strong backs will sort them and stack them and point them in the direction of a guy or girl in a brown uniform. Soon (we hope) they’ll find their way to a retailer near you.
Stock up on the house-brand cheese and get yourself a couple of boxes of pink wine. Face of the Sky can’t be everywhere, but he/it can make a personal visit to you! There are five readings from the novel here on the website–and they are now fully downloadable.
To celebrate, Face of the Sky poses seductively in a suite at the Aria Hotel.
You know you want it…
It’s a REALLY BIG book!
In case it slipped my mind–and it did and does–I’ve got a book coming out! To that end, I’ve updated the website with the events that are on the calendar through early next year. All Minnesota and Dallas all the time, so far, (except that nice little side trip to NYC), but hoping to spread my wings a bit more in the spring.
And hoping to see you out there on the road. (But not YOU.)
