I raised and lowered the number a dozen times before settling on the final count.  In the end, I opted for the one that best highlighted the heart of the novel–the names of those six characters who for so long have been an important part of my life.  It’s almost graduation day for Daniel, Janet, Ari, Estelle, Keisha and Craig.

It’s a good thing when something you write sets people off, right?  Recently, in the act of writing about the living hell that is the book business, I forgot that part of my role as teacher and mentor is to see to the morale of the troops.  Maybe—just maybe—announcing to the world how hard the publishing world sucks isn’t the most encouraging message for struggling writers.
